Molas
Molas are the traditional folk art of
the Kuna people of San Blas, Panama. They live in the tropical
islands and along the
rain forested coast of the Caribbean. Kuna
women have made their brightly colored and strikingly unique blouse
panels
for more than 100 years. The women use techniques such as
reverse appliqué, stacking colored fabric, then cutting
slashes in the top layer to outline the pattern and pulling the lower
colors to the top; they add even more colors on top using
traditional
appliqué.
